Having studied Fine Art at the Royal Academy of Arts in London for three years, I believe passionately in a visual vocabulary that underpins and enriches life beyond measure.
As a Fine Artist I have worked with a variety of materials - I enjoy seeing the world through the lens of a camera and strive constantly to attain an understanding of three dimensional form through oil paints, heavy body acrylic paints, collage, drawing and digital media.
I enjoy travel and photography in my spare time and many of my pieces are directly influenced by life's experiences. and in some cases digital media.
Born in the North West of England in an area synonymous with the work of artist LS Lowry. I Studied Foundation Art at Rochdale School of Art followed with a BA (Hons) Fine Art (Painting) at Loughborough College of Art, and finally, a Post Graduate Diploma in Fine Art (Painting) from the Royal Academy of Arts, London. I have exhibited widely across the UK including the Royal Academy of Arts, London, where I was awarded the Landseer Gold Medal for painting
in the course of my early development as an artist.
I love responding to and recreating vibrant works, often inspired in part to the Great Master's Michelangelo, Turner, Klimt, Picasso, Beckmann, Bonnard including Abstract Pattern, Still Life objects along with the natural environment here at my home on the Isle of Wight.
"Draw your pleasure, paint your pleasure, and express your pleasure strongly" - Pierre Bonnard 1867 - 1947 This statement by Bonnard brings back fond memories of vivid colour, abstract pattern and floods my imagination with ideas and inspiration.
Attending the Royal Academy of Arts provided me with a fantastic opportunity to spend hour upon hour in the heart of central London visiting exhibitions and collections which are world renowned. Bonnard's words provided me with a mantra for art teaching and, for thirty years, I was Head of Art at Radley College, Oxford.
